Ngi Tun: A Journey Shaped by the PAL
If you’ve ever visited the Police Athletic League of Kansas City, Kansas, chances are you’ve met Ngi Tun. Since the PAL KCK opened its doors in 2019, Ngi has spent countless evenings learning, growing, and building skills across a variety of programs—from fitness and boxing to gun safety, hunter’s education, and fishing. He also took part in the inaugural class of the PAL KCK’s pioneering Driver’s Education program, earning his Kansas permit and license while giving back through community service. With the PAL KCK’s support, he graduated high school and landed his first full-time job with the UG Public Works Department in Kansas City, Kansas.

Supported by Mentors. Strengthened by Community.
For Ngi, the PAL KCK became more than an activity center—it became a second home. Frequent moves had made adjusting to new communities a challenge, but at the PAL KCK, he found stability, friendship, and trusted mentors, including Kansas City, Kansas police officers, who guided him through adolescence. These relationships gave him the tools and confidence to navigate school, set goals, and serve as a positive example for his peers.
Every day after school, Ngi came to the PAL KCK to work on homework and school projects, receiving tutoring and support from Officer Locke and other mentors. Their guidance helped him stay on track, develop strong study habits, and ultimately graduate high school. “Ngi worked really hard to graduate,” recalls Officer Locke, who proudly attended his high school graduation.
From PAL Kid to PAL Leader
Today, Ngi continues to invest in his community by working at the PAL KCK in the evenings. He coordinates community service projects for students in the Driver’s Education program, leads groups of PAL KCK kids, serves meals, maintains common spaces, and welcomes visitors. Through his leadership and mentorship, he models the same commitment and generosity he once received from his PAL KCK mentors.
